//Nina Hagen Band – „Nina Hagen Band“ – 1977
Back in Germany today with the first studio album of the Nina Hagen Band! We are again confronted a real mosaic of styles. When this album was released in 1977, it was considered as a detonator for the German new wave, it mixes pure punk (the first title “Tv-Glotzer” is a cover of the song “White Punks On Dope” of the band The Tubes), reggae (“Heiß”) and crazy Rock’n’Roll (Auf’m Bahnhof Zoo”). Nina Hagen wrote herself all the texts with a lot of provocative and quite suggestive words (In “Pank”, she writes “Ich bin nicht deine Fickmaschine, spritz-spritz, das ist’n Witz”. For the ones who don’t understand German, I let you google it!).
To be honest, when you look at the lyrics closely, it’s quite weird! To emphasize this impression of “madness” , Nina sings most songs with an theatrical-hysterical voice, what give to the album an incredible energy. Even a song like “Naturträne”, at first sight quieter, finishes with diabolic-opera consonances.
At the end, I’m really glad that the UFO Nina Hagen Band landed on my turntable. What a funny experience!
